New Terminology


Anthropology: Anthropology is the scientific study of humans, human behavior and societies in the past and present.

Capricious: given to sudden and unaccountable changes of mood or behaviour.: "a capricious and often brutal administration".

Portraiture: the art of painting or taking portraits.: "Ingres is a master of portraiture".

Renaissance: the revival of European art and literature under the influence of classical models in the 14th–16th centuries.

Transliterated: write or print (a letter or word) using the closest corresponding letters of a different alphabet or language.: "names from one language are often transliterated into another".

Theological: the study of the nature of God and religious belief.

Despoil: steal or violently remove valuable possessions from; plunder.: "the church was despoiled of its marble wall covering".

Salubrity: favorable to or promoting health; healthful

Unequivocal: leaving no doubt; unambiguous.: "an unequivocal answer" "he was unequivocal in condemning the violence".

Treatise: a written work dealing formally and systematically with a subject.: "his treatise on Scottish political theory".

Doctrine: a belief or set of beliefs held and taught by a Church, political party, or other group.: "the doctrine of predestination".

Hellenistic: of or relating to the Greeks or their language, culture, etc., after the time of Alexander the Great, when Greek characteristics were modified by foreign elements.

Aggregate: formed or calculated by the combination of several separate elements; total.: "the aggregate amount of grants made".

Extant: still in existence; surviving.: "an extant letter".

Contiguous: sharing a common border; touching.: "the Southern Ocean is contiguous with the Atlantic

Abstruse: difficult to understand; obscure.: "an abstruse philosophical inquiry".

Determinant: a factor which decisively affects the nature or outcome of something.: "pure force of will was the main determinant of his success". adjective: serving to determine or decide something.
Raze: completely destroy (a building, town, or other settlement).: "villages were razed to the ground".

Impoverishment: the process of becoming poor; loss of wealth.: "fifteen years of political instability resulted in widespread impoverishment and famine".

Neoclassical: (also spelled Neo-classicism; from Greek νέος nèos, "new" and Greek κλασικός klasikόs, "of the highest rank") was a Western cultural movement in the decorative and visual arts, literature, theatre, music, and architecture that drew inspiration from the art and culture of classical antiquity.

Verities: a true principle or belief, especially one of fundamental importance.: "the eternal verities".

Monetary: relating to money or currency.: "documents with little or no monetary value".

Demarcates: set the boundaries or limits of.: "plots of land demarcated by barbed wire".

Fission: division or splitting into two or more parts.: "the party dissolved into fission and acrimony".

Taoist: Taoism or Daoism is a philosophical tradition of Chinese origin which emphasises living in harmony with the Tao (Chinese: 道; pinyin: Dào; lit : 'the Way', also romanised as Dao)

Arbitrarily: 1. on the basis of random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system.: "recurrent infection is arbitrarily defined as three or more infections a year". 2. without restraint in the use of authority; autocratically.: "everyone has the right not to be arbitrarily detained".

Banal: so lacking in originality as to be obvious and boring.: "songs with banal, repeated words".

Perspicuous: clearly expressed and easily understood; lucid.: "it provides simpler and more perspicuous explanations than its rivals".

Temporal: 1.relating to worldly as opposed to spiritual affairs; secular.: "the Church did not imitate the secular rulers who thought only of temporal gain". 2.relating to time.: "the spatial and temporal dimensions of human interference in complex ecosystems".

Axiomatic: Adjective self-evident or unquestionable.
